Why Blog about Compton

First of all, I was raised in the City of Compton until age 12. I attended my elementary years in Compton Unified School District. I moved to the city of Lynwood, Ca just one city from Compton. Spent tthe rest of my childhood, adolescent, and teenage years there. Later in life, fast forward to now I have been a resident and a homeowner in the Beautiful City of Compton for 15 years. Compton is often associated with gangs and crimes. Not denying that both are a factor and that needs to be addressed. Statistics shows both are on a steady decline. Besides the two fore mentioned, Compton is full of hard working, educated, decent folk. Many residents have spent their entires lives in Compton, help recycle revenue, vote, part of block clubs, involved in the community, and want to see positive change.

My blog is to shine light on the real day to day lives, stories, and positive images that make up the community of the City of Compton.

Straight out of Compton

The movie straight out of Compton has brought media attention to our city once again. Is this a good thing. Perhaps? Compton is often portrayed in a very negative way, emphasizing the negative often times vs, the positives. As a resident of Compton I have first hand knowledge of many good deeds, positive stories, successes etc. Straight out of Compton was a true story based on true lives. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Compton did give birth to the group NWA and that is fact. I am interested in how will the movie impact our youth, our image, and our community.
